Bangkok is not green, but has a lot of trees.

In a study published in Reader's Digest, Bangkok was rated the 5th worst city in the world in terms of being green and livable. Now, sure there's a lot of traffic, it's dirty, and the air quality really isn't that good. Plus, last year a friend of mine got hit with a bucket of Klong water during Songkran, and it wiped him out with some nasty bug for about a week. However, on the good side, have you (if you live/visited here) ever noticed how many trees there are, on all the roads, everywhere?

I visited Bangkok quite recently and was warned that I would absolutely HATE the place (the usual stories about fumes, smog, traffic jams). Ok so you have to allow a lot of time to get anywhere in a taxi but the metro system is one of the cleanest, most efficient I have ever experienced...to the point of sterile... and I too was taken aback by the number of trees in the city. Ok they may be polluted and diseased but at least they're there! I loved the place and am really enjoying reading about your experiences. Hopefully I'll be back some day.

I recommend Wat Pho to those planing to visit Bangkok. This temple is famous for the Reclining Buddha statue. I heard that it is the largest Temple in Bangkok. What you shouldn't miss is to have a really good traditional Thai massage there. Do show respect for the monks when visiting Wat in Thailand.
