Eating at Yayoi Central World

Yayoi's tag line is hot, quick Japanese food, and that's pretty much exactly what it is. Inexpensive chain, operated by same company that does MK Restaurants, it's pretty decent for something quick and easy. I think my meal came to like 120 baht or so (about $4).

After lunch, hit the movie to see "Shoot 'Em Up". S'ok movie, kinda ridiculous but lots of action. I love going to Central World now for the movie/meal combo, over Siam Paragon, as there seem to be less people, and there's a whole lot of choices of restaurants. The movie was in one of the big theatres, (#15) and I think there were like 3 other people there (of course it WAS Monday afternoon). I have pictures of the inside of the theatre and the lobby on Flickr.

After the movie, did a bit of food shopping in the gourmet supermarket they have, conveniently located right next to the theatre. Mmmm, I love the cheese and dessert sections, although my waistline certainly doesn't.

My friend Sa (that's her on right side of the picture), is visiting and staying with me for a few days. Thus, I've been going out to eat a lot lately. Always on my list to for dining with out of town friends is Somboon Seafood on Ratchada in Huay Kwang district. Really awesome food, energetic atmosphere (lots of people, a little noisy), and pretty good price as well. Frommers gives Somboon a thumbs up as well. Three people had a feast for about 1200 baht ($40 in the terrible exchange rate we currently have).

One of my absolute favorite things to get here (along with the shrimp balls, oysters, mussels w/egg, fresh fish), is Curry Crab. Mmmm mmm good stuff, I'm getting hungry now just thinking about it again.

Great place if you're ever having trouble deciding what to eat, as there many choices. I usually do a caesar salad / macaroni combo, but yesterday I had some Nasi Lemak (Malaysian). Oh yeah, and the desserts are incredible, but I was a good boy yesterday and refrained.

Dinner at Yuu

Had a huge dinner a Yuu tonight. Really like it here, but always eat so much.

The food style is Japanese BBQ, basically you order a bunch of beef, chicken, shrimp and cook in on a big pot of coals in the middle of your table. The portions are just right, and it's great getting a bunch of different cuts/styles of meat. Of course there are other Japanese foods available to supplement, miso soup, sushi/sashimi, etc.

Mmm, good stuff. For 4 people, our total bill was about 1800 baht....and we ate a lot. Check it out on Sukhumvit Soi 31. Just head down the Soi from Sukhumvit, until you come to a 4 way intersection, take a left. Just as the road bends back to the right, Yuu will be on the right hand side. There's also another one in J-Avenue on Thonglor.

Weekend was a wash

Got some kind of stomach virus Friday night that pretty much wiped me out for the entire weekend. Nose was ok, no coughing, but running a bit of a fever off and on all weekend and had a bit of a stomach issue. Just starting to get over it today (Monday). Last night got the news of a plane crash in Phuket. One2Go airlines, trying to land in a storm, might have been hit with some wind sheer and pretty much broke apart when hitting the ground.

My parents are planning on coming to Thailand in January, and I was just telling them how easy it is to fly around with all the low cost airlines in the area. Dad asked me, "how safe are they?" My response, "yeah no problems, I never hear of a crash."

Started talking to a friend who lives out in the country about sourcing some products for sale on Ebay or wholesale. She can get some pretty good deals, has contacts in Vietnam and Cambodia. Definitely would like to see this develop. Incredible the money some of the expats are making out here just sourcing stuff on Ebay.

Bangkok Blog coming Back

So I'm working on bringing back this blog back again. I'll start regular postings about life in Bangkok, e-commerce and american football. Yeah, quite an eclectic mix, but these are my interests at the moment. Really though, the main focus will be living in Bangkok Thailand from an ex-pat point of view.
